SMP Europe

SMP Europe is launching a new brand, Intermotor Electric, to stay ahead of the ever evolving automotive industry as it shifts towards electric vehicle, reinforcing our commitment to supporting aftermarket repair for many years to come.

Ross Toomey, SMP Europe Managing Director, said: “The past two years has seen us accelerate our investment in engineering, which has been the foundation of our business since it’s beginning more than 50 years ago. As a company we always have one eye on the technology of tomorrow, and we are already ahead of the curve when it comes to development of aftermarket components for EV and Hybrid vehicle repair.”

The new brand range will initially launch with sensors and speed components, whilst our expert engineering team explore a number of additional components specific to EV that can be readily adapted and improved for a trusted Intermotor fit. Significant investment has been made into the company’s Nottingham Centre of Engineering Excellence over recent years to prepare for research into, and development of EV products. A garage and workshop facility has been added, equipped with specialist equipment, providing engineers with a platform to identify and develop new product ranges, specific to the expanding EV markets. The new facility will enable accelerated product development, benefitting distributors and garages and further cementing SMP Europe as an engineering leader in the industry. The company are also set to offer technical training on electric vehicles, with engineers able to complete work to level 3 certifications.

John Wass, engineering director at SMP Europe, said: “The new facility enables the wider engineering team to investigate EVs and research how certain systems perform. Our new garage facility can find faults with standard equipment and utilise this new knowledge to develop more robust references for the ever-expanding cohort of EVs within the UK vehicle parc.”

Intermotor Electric is expected to launch in Q1 2023, with registration of interest being taken following Automechanika in Frankfurt. Existing customers should speak to their dedicated sales representative, whilst new customers can contact info@smpeurope.com for more information.
